Missing – Chapter Eight

After hearing the commotion downstairs I had to take a look to see what was going on. As I came to the doorway to the main hall, I could see Dimitri, Chris, Sandy, and my parents talking about something.

“Are you definitely sure?” my father asked Sandy. “Yes it’s been confirmed,” she replied to him. I didn’t know what they were talking about but whatever it was, it had both my parents upset.

“Hanna and her boyfriend are missing, but the guardians were not so lucky. His guardians had their throats ripped out, there was blood everywhere! I should have never agreed to let Jacob take watch, it is all my fault!” she explained. My father became pale and bewildered, almost breaking down into tears.

My mother went on a frantic rampage of emotions, first crying, then screaming. They eventually helped her to her room to see if they could calm her, while they summoned the doctor. I stood there watching as everything started to fall apart. I wasn’t sure what was going on, all I knew is it was bad.

I wanted to get closer to hear what they were saying when I bumped into the shelf by the door. Dimitri turned in my direction with a grim look on his face.

“Go tell Emily what’s going on while I help organize the search team,” I hear Dimitri tell Chris.

Chris joined me in the living room with a grave face. “What’s going on? Where’s Hanna?” I asked. “After you got home from school today, your sister and her boyfriends car was found only a hour ago. Your sisters guard and her boyfriends guards were murdered,” he was explaining until I cut him off. “What about my sister,” I demanded. “Well that’s the thing, they haven’t found her or her boyfriend their still searching but haven’t found any leads yet,” he explained.

“Why would anyone do something so horrible?” I asked. “We’re not sure, probably for money or something like that. I’m sure they will call or send a letter demanding something soon,” he tries to reassure me.

I began to panic, my heart was racing, threatening to jump out of my chest as I imagined the worst. I couldn’t hardly breath by this point.

The tears began to run down my cheeks, as my entire body grew numb.

I felt my knees go weak as I crumbled down to the ground.

Chris didn’t know what to do with me, I was crying and sobbing uncontrollable. I felt like someone had just ripped me apart. I started to get really dizzy with spots dancing in my vision when Dimitri appeared and bent down pulling me into his arms. I buried my face into his chest and cried.

“It’s OK, they will find her,” he whispered. I don’t know what it was about Dimitri but he had a way of calming me. I closed my eyes wrapping my arms around him tighter as I found a bit of comfort from the pain.

Dimitri picked me up out of the floor pulling me into his arms. I wrapped my arms around his neck while resting my chin on his shoulder. “It’s going to be ok, we will find your sister,” he whispered into my ear. He was the comfort I needed at that moment.

He took me to my room, placing me on the bed. He then walked over to one of my chairs, pulling it up next to the bed. “Sleep,” he demanded. “I can’t while she’s out there all alone,” I replied between my sobs. “She’s not alone, her boyfriend is with her. I’ll stay right here, so try and rest,” he told me trying to comfort me, but I couldn’t relax. I wish I could tap into her thoughts or feelings so I could find her. I closed my eyes hoping that I could feel her. I knew she was alive, but for how long I wasn’t sure.

Rejection of the Heart – Chapter Seven

Just as Chris had told me, Dimitri was up in his room. When I walked into his room, he was sitting on the floor with his legs crossed and his eyes closed. I stepped further into the room, trying not to disturb him. I didn’t realize he did meditation in his spare time. I had never really bothered going into his room to talk to him. I wasn’t sure what had gotten into me, I was curious about Demitri.

I crept over as quiet as I could, sitting down in front of Dimitri, who didn’t even seem to know I was there. I watched him meditate without moving a muscle. It was mesmerizing how in-depth he was, I could only wonder what was going through his mind.

All a sudden he opened his eyes, staring at me with such a serious look that finally turned into amusement. “I’m glad you think I’m funny,” I smirked.

“Emily, I knew you were there the whole time. You couldn’t be quiet if your life depended on it,” he laughed.

“Well, my life doesn’t depend on it, but it would be nice if you would teach me some defense moves,” I say with a smile.

“We were supposed to meet up in the workout room, not in my room,” he replied.

I leaned back, looking away. “What difference does it really make, I will be able to concentrate on the lessons if no one is grunting beside me on the treadmill,” I say in a soft voice.

He stood, pulling me up off the floor. “Alright, just this time.”

“OK, first you will need to learn self-defense. This will help you fend off someone if they try to attack you. Here’s what I want you to do,” he explained as he placed me in a spot to play the attacker while he played the victom.

“Hit me,” he says as he moves a few feet from me.

“What?’ I asked a little confused.

“I want to see how good you can hit,” he says.

“So you want me to just… hit you?” I asked again a little confused.

“Yes, so I can tell you what you need to change,” he replied.

I balled up my fist and tried to rush at him. I threw my fist at him but he moved out of the way with no effort at all. I swung again and missed with the same results.

I was about ready to give up when Dimitri looked at me with a fierce look. “You want to learn to protect yourself, well then you need to put aside the frustration and any other emotion you have, it will only get you killed in the long run. Attack me again,” he demanded. I didn’t listen to what he said, without a second thought, I tried to hit him again.

As I swung I missed completely, falling down on the floor. I scuffed my knee as it took the brunt of the fall… I groaned out in pain as it began to sting.

“Are you alright?” Dimitri asked as he knelt down in front of me. He towered over me as I tried to hold back the tears of humiliation and hurt. It’s alright, this is your first time at this. It’s going to be awkward and hard at first. The more you practice the better you will be to fend off attackers. Anytime you don’t want to do this, we can stop,” he explained.

I finally looked up meeting his brown eyes that held me captive. He was so close as he talked to me. My heart began to race and I found it hard to breathe. His eyes, those sweet dark eyes. I couldn’t think of anything as I stared into his eyes. I couldn’t even concentrate on what he was saying, this was starting to happen to me lately.

I wasn’t even thinking as I moved closer to him. I wanted him to touch me, I wanted his lips on mine. I moved against him, making him fall back onto his butt. Dimitri’s eyes grew wide when I fell against his chest. “What are you doing?” he asked.

I wrapped my arms around him as I leaned in meeting his lips with mine. His lips were warm and sweet just as I had imagined that they would be. He started to pull away but must have changed his mind as he gently kissed me back.

He relaxed a little, then I felt his arms wrap around me. He pulled me close as he kissed me with more fierceness. His kiss was now hungry and yearning like mine. We kissed and kissed. Oh, how I loved feeling his lips move along mine. It was a sweet bliss that was tore from me when he finally pulled away.

He let go of me, then shifted me off him. He stood up then handed me his hand to help me up. I stood up with ease as he pulled me to my feet.

When I regained my footing I stepped toward Dimitri to feel his lips on mine again, but he stopped me by putting his hand on my arm.

He held my arm while he stroked my face with his other hand. “We can’t do this, this must never happen again. Do you understand,” he told me as I choked back the tears that were threatening to take over. I was crushed, I didn’t want to hear it, I just wanted him, that’s all I wanted. I wanted his arms to hold me, his lips to kiss me, but instead, he was pulling away.

“You don’t want me?” I asked in shock.

“It’s not that, I’m your protector, your guardian, the one who protects you from harm. Plus I’m much older, you are a royal, I am not. We are forbidden to be together, it must not happen,” he said with strain in his voice.

His eyes burned with passion and hurt all at the same time. I could tell that he was struggling not to pull me back into his arms, but he would not falter. He stood there serious, not moving.

“You must go,” he said as he released me and turned away so I couldn’t see his face.

“But………….” is all I could get out before he repeated for me to go. Feeling defeated I turned and left him in his room. As I walked down the steps I was mixed with so many emotions, I couldn’t let him see me cry. The tears threatened me as my heart broke from the rejection.

I went straight to my room so no one would see me. I walked over to my dresser, staring into the mirror at the reflection that stared back at me. How could he not think I was pretty? How could he not want to be with me? I kept asking myself over and over as the tears weld up in my eyes.

I couldn’t hold it back any longer, I let the tears flow down my cheeks as I crawled onto my bed. I had never felt this much pain in my heart before, I had never felt this strong about anyone. I had finally found someone that I wanted to be with, and I couldn’t be with him. Life didn’t seem that fair as I laid there crying my self asleep.

Big Mistakes – Chapter Six

“What’s wrong with you lately?” Mark asks. I wish I could tell him but of course, I wouldn’t expect him to understand. He seems like all he wants to do is make out with me. He was not this bad a few months ago, I don’t know what has gotten into him.

I look away from him as I try to get the courage to tell him how I feel. I have to break it off with him but don’t know what to say. I finally just blurt it out, “I can’t see you anymore,” I stumble over my words as they leave my lips. He glares at me not with shock but with anger.

“What, are you kidding me? What! Are you interested in someone else?” he shouts. “No, it’s not like that, I just don’t think we are good together,” I reply.

“Not good together, you wouldn’t know since you won’t do anything with me, your nothing but a tease,” he yells at me, as he balls up his fists. “Exactly, I don’t want that kind of relationship, it’s not something I want to do right now and that’s something I know you want. I can’t give you what you want,” I reply in a soft tone. He’s so angry that I’m starting to get nervous. I take a few steps backward, then turn to head in the house.

I just want to get away from him, but he follows me into the house. “Why are you so stubborn? You know you and I are destined to be together. We can rule this kingdom by joining the two most powerful family’s in the realm,” he huffs as he comes to stand in front of me.

I go to pull away but he grabs my wrist really hard to stop me. I stumble forward as he grips my wrist harder. I go to pull away, only to have him grip me even harder. “Your not going anywhere. You’re going to be my girlfriend in all ways,” he says with a darkness to his voice. My breath hitches and I think I have stopped breathing altogether. The way he stares at me makes me tremble in fear of what he’s going to do next. I was all alone with Mark, Mad Mark, that’s determined to make me his. Dimitri had left to do something since we were home now and now I could really use him.

“Mark, no. Please stop, you’re hurting me,” I begged. “You are mine, I will not share you with anyone else,” he tells me as he gets this horrible grin on his face.

“Please,” I beg again and that’s when I hear an angry Dimitri behind me. “Get your hands off her,” Dimitri growls.

Mark lets go, then takes a step back, peering back at Dimitri. My mouth falls open as I look at how angry Dimitri looks. “Get out and never come back. If you step one foot close to her ever again, I will rip you apart with my bare hands,” he tells Mark through gritted teeth.

“What are you going to do about it? Your nobody!” Mark hissed at Dimitri.

That’s when it happened, Dimitri lunged forward connecting his fist with Mark’s jaw, knocking Mark off his feet. Mark fell in an awkward motion hitting the floor hard. I think at that moment I stopped breathing. Frozen where I stood, I gaped at them.

Dimitri backed up from Mark as Mark tried to get back up. When he stood, he gave Dimitri a look of pure hatred. He looked at Dimitri who was fuming and then to me. “You tease!” Mark yells at me, making me flinch. “GO!” Dimitri hisses.

Mark didn’t move until Dimitri jumped towards him. Mark’s face goes pale as the blood drains from his face. Mark then starts to step backs toward the door. I could tell Dimitri was ready to rip him apart. “GO!” Dimitri growls at Mark once more. It took Mark only a second to run out the front door.

I’m left standing in the main entrance all alone. Mark left as soon as Dimitri kicked his butt, and now Dimitri has disappeared. I go from room to room, I finally find him in the living room sitting in a chair. As I approached, he looked like he was still mad. As I slowly approach him, I can only hope he’s not mad at me.

I stop when I get a few feet from him. I figured he would look up but he doesn’t. He’s staring straight ahead. “Please don’t be mad at me,” I beg softly, keeping my voice low.

“I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at myself. I wanted to tear him apart when I saw him hurting you. I almost lost control,” he says as he stares ahead.

All the sudden he stands up, taking me into his arms. I gasp as he takes me by surprise. I start to lose my balance when he grabs me by my waist and pulls me to him. I can’t tell what his eyes are telling me, hurt, pain, frustration. It’s all too much.

Dimitri’s face softens but still has a sad look. “I’m really sorry if I scared you, he had no right to put his hands on you or to talk to you that way. I wish I could have been there sooner. He won’t get ten feet from you from now on. I’ll make sure to that,” he tells me softly. My heart is constricting, I think I have completely stopped breathing. I’m frozen in his arms, I can’t even focus on anything he’s saying. I’m just lost in his eyes.

He pulls away from me, then walks back over to the chair he was setting in before. He sits and stares ahead leaving me confused. I wish I could understand his feelings, but he’s so hard to read. I have never felt this way around anyone and it unnerves me.

Then my mother comes busting through the living room, startling me and Dimitri. He jumps up to meet my mother as I stand there still not moving. “Oh there you are, I got a call from Marks parents. They say you hit Mark. What did he do?” she asks. “Sorry, I lost it, the boy was being rough with Emily, and disrespectful. I punched him,” Dimitri replies. “Well, good for you, I knew we made a good decision on hiring you. Thank you once again,” she tells Dimitri. “I’ll tell them,” she grumbles to herself as she’s leaving.

Taking Risks – Chapter Five

As I drop over the hill, I spot Dimitri skipping rocks across the water. I keep my distance so I can watch him a little longer. I rarely got to see him so relaxed, carefree, being himself. He always seemed to have his guard up around me and the others. I figured it had a lot to do with his job and to reduce distractions.

I start walking down the hill, as I got closer, Dimitri stopped throwing rocks, he must have heard me approaching. When he turned in my direction, I knew he spotted me by the angry face he gave me.

“Emily! What are you doing here, where is Chris?” he demanded with panic in his voice.

“I got bored, so I decided to take a walk. I knew you were here, so I didn’t think you would mind if I joined you,” I said. “No, this is not alright, we are here to protect you. How many times have I told you that it’s dangerous to be out after dark? It’s almost dark and here you are all by yourself because you were bored. What if something happened to you, just think how crushed your parents and Chris and…….I would be. You have to promise me that you will never do this again. Never leave without me or Chris.” he yelled at me. I felt crushed, I didn’t realize what I had done. “I promise,” I replied in a whisper.

I walk back with Dimitri towards the house with neither of us saying a word. I followed him into the house. When we got to the living room, he walked over to the fireplace, lighting the fire. “Stay here, I’m going to let Chris know where you are, I’m sure he’s worried about you,” he said before he left me standing alone. I felt like Dimitri was mad at me, the last thing I wanted to happen. He was probably yelling at Chris for not keeping a close eye on me.

When he returned, he took a seat on the floor in front of the fireplace. “Sit,” he said as he motioned for me to sit down beside him. I couldn’t look at him directly, I wasn’t sure if he was still upset with me or not.

I kept my eyes on the fire, after a few moments of silence he spoke, “Emily” he whispers. Him just saying my name sounded like velvet to my ears, like a warm summer day.

I looked over at him, I was instantly relieved that he looked actually calm as he leaned back with his arm resting on his knee. The fire reflected in his gorgeous brown eyes, that made me look at his eyes. Oh man, why does he have to be so darn cute, and why am I so drawn to him? I ask myself over and over.

I pulled my eyes away and focused on the fire again. “You don’t realize how important you are, you have to be careful with what you do. If something happened to you”………….he trails off pausing for a moment. “Just be careful,” he added.

“How bad did you yell at Chris?” I ask. “I didn’t, I just let him know that you were back,” he said as he smiled at me. “What do you mean by that?” I ask, trying to keep my mouth off the floor. “He called me before you got out of the house. He followed you till you came over the hill,” he said as he began to giggle. “That is not funny, I should have known,” I protested, shoving him hard.

“You take your job so serious, I mean not serious exactly, but your so dedicated. Why would you give up your life and you want to guard someone like me? That just seems like a sacrifice that wouldn’t be worth it,” I asked.

“It’s something I had always wanted to do when I was a child,” he replied. “So, your family, don’t they miss you something terrible?” I asked. “Yes, they do, but I’m an adult now and this was my destiny,” he replied and said nothing else about his family.

Full Of Secrets – Chapter Four

My parents were in meetings, while my sister was busy with her boyfriend. Dimitri and Chris were off doing something, but close enough to keep a watchful eye on me. I had nothing better to do, so I sat down at the piano. I remember back when I was a kid taking all those piano lessons. I hated it, I just wanted to be like the other kids playing outside. As I grew older, I found playing the piano enjoyable. I let my fingers glide along the keys as the melody takes me on a wonderful journey.

I was almost through the song when I heard something, well someone behind me. I stopped playing with a grin, somehow I knew who was there.

I turned around to see Dimitri standing there watching me. “Don’t stop playing, it’s beautiful,” he tells me. He motions for me to continue as he smiles at me. I felt my breath catch in my throat. He never smiled at me like that before. I turn around, taking a deep breath, I place my hands on the keys. I cleared my mind, then steadied my hands. I started from the beginning of the song and played it flawless till the end.

“I never knew you could play the piano that good, it’s mesmerizing,” he says. “I’ve been playing since I was a small child, I just never play around others. I guess that’s why you never heard me play before,” I say. I looked up at him and we locked eyes. I stopped breathing as he held my gaze. I quickly looked away, I couldn’t let him see what was in my heart. The feelings that I was trying to hide that was growing for him each time we were together. “Lets go outside for a bit,” he says as he reaches down, grabbing my hand into his, leading me outside.

He lead me into the back yard near the pool. He motions towards the picnic table. As he takes a seat, I set down beside him. It was just me and Dimitri, all alone without anyone else around. This would give me the perfect opportunity to learn a little more about what made Dimitri so special. “Ok, I get that you are able to wield magic and do spells and such, but out of all the time I have known you, I realized that I don’t know that much about you,” I told him, hoping that he would give me some answers, and to explain what I had witnessed the other night when he was sparing outside with Chris.

“There’s nothing to tell, I’m just one of the top royal guardians that your father picked to protect you,” he says. I could hear it in his voice that he was holding something back. I was becoming very frustrated, I wanted to know more about him. “Dimitri! Why hide things from me? You know everything about me, but I don’t know that much about you. Your have dedicated your life to be by my side for as long as I live or if something happens to you,” I yell not realizing it.

He stood up and looked over at me. I had went to far, he was mad and now I was in big trouble. “Ok, you want to know more about me, then follow me,” he says in a stern voice.

I follow him, not saying a word, as he leads me into one of the library’s in the house. It was one of our small library’s that no one hardly visited. Just when I thought he was going to pull a book off the shelf to teach me some history lesson, the whole bookshelf moved to the side revealing a doorway.

My mouth was on the floor with shock, I had lived here my whole entire life and never knew about this secret room.

I followed Dimitri through the doorway into a room that had concrete walls, with shelves of books that lined it’s walls. There were tables with books that were opened, along with stuff I had no clue what they were. Dimitri turns to me, “this is where I keep my family’s history, along with important things,” he says.  “I didn’t know this existed,” I gaped. “It was built when you were a young child in preparation for me and Chris when we would join the guards. It had been requested by my father that this room be built to hid our family’s secrets. Everyone in the royal family knows we have magic that makes us different from the other guards, that is what makes us different from all the other guards. There are a few of us that exist,” he says. “So that explains the other night,” I say out loud not realizing it. “What do you mean by last night?” Dimitri asks. “I saw you and Chris sparing outside one night. It looked like any other time you guys fight, but then you both moved so fast that it looked so unnatural,” I say. “I see, me and Chris are unique from all the rest. How do I put this, we are the same as you but……..we don’t have the light. Only my family are hybrids that have the special abilities,” he says. “What about Chris?” I ask. He is a distant relative of mine, cousins to be exact, he tells me, leaving me stunned as speechless.

He grabs my arm, pulling me over to a table that had a large, antique looking book, that was propped up on a stand. He opened it and began to flip through the pages.

“Ok here it is, I belong to a special group of wizards, guardians or sorcerers, as you would call them, have always been the royal guards to the king and queen that serve on the throne. My grandfather and his before him, have taught us special fighting skills, spells, and potions to aide the king and queen. Your father hand picked me and Chris when we were children. I was chosen to protect you, the future queen. Me and Chris were trained specifically for when you became of age. He has known our secret, and had kept this secret like all the other kings before him,” he says as he flips through the pages. I’m speechless and have not said a word as he tells me the history of his kind. I had known they were different but I had no clue how special Chris and Dimitri were. “I am a direct descendant of the royal wizards that have protected the kingdom, my fate was already decided before I was even born,” he says. “That doesn’t seem very fair,” I say. “It’s the same fate you were given before you were born,” he adds. I couldn’t disagree with that. We were so much alike, and I didn’t even realize it. “These books are all the techniques, spells and potions that have been passed down through the generations of guardian’s in my family.

As he shut the book I had to break the silence that was hanging between us. I elbowed him in the ribs, “now how hard was that,” I tell him as he rubs his side. “I was not suppose to tell you my secret,” he says.

Before I can even say anything, he pulls me into his arms, then kisses me on the forehead. He had his arms around me and his lips were pressed on my forehead. My heart was beating so fast, and I couldn’t breath as he held me against him. His body was warm, and his lips were soft and gentle. I wished they were on my lips, but I knew that would never happen no matter how much I wanted him to kiss me. I finally relaxed and wrapped my arms around him. He only held me a brief moment. “I will always protect you,” he told me, then he released me.

He stepped back and I was already missing his touch. He looked at me, locking his eyes on me, as I tried to hide how much he had affected me. I wanted him to kiss me and hold me in his arms again, I was lost without his touch. He looked away, “we must be going before we are missed,” he says, then leads me out of the hidden door in the library.

Dimitri told me and Chris that he had some errands to run, and that I was to stay close to Chris for the rest of the evening. It was a hot day, so me and Chris headed toward the pool, except I couldn’t get him to join me. “Come on, it’s nice,” I said as I looked over at him setting in one of the chairs by the pool. “I’m fine, I’m perfectly content setting here,” he says as he shifts in his seat. “Is it because your on duty?” I ask. “It’s not, we are always considered to be on duty. I just don’t feel like getting wet right now. Enjoy yourself, if I change my mind, I will join you,” he says.

I did a few laps, then decided I was going to join Chris by the pool.

The sun was warm and welcoming as I set back in my chair.

I sent Chris into the house to keep him close by, while I got showered and changed. I headed down to the kitchen to get a snack. My sister was in the kitchen roaming through the cabinets when  she turned to face me, “how are you?” she asks. “I’m good, it’s been a really boring day with Mark out of town, and mom and dad away,” I reply. “Can I talk to you about something without you getting mad at me?” she asks. “You can always talk to me, what’s on your mind?” I ask. “I know a secret, and your not going to like it. Mark, well he’s only going out with you because your the kings daughter. He’s wanting to make himself more popular until he becomes king one day. He was even talking about trying to score with you to some of the guys as school,” she tells me.

I can feel the tears fill my eyes, flowing down my cheeks. I’m shocked and hurt all at the same time. I don’t even know what to say. “How did you find out?” I ask. “I overheard some of the boys talking about it at school, and it makes me angry that he would do that to you. I know you don’t like him that way, so I don’t want you to waste another second on him, he doesn’t deserve you. Just be careful around him,” she says.

“You don’t have anything to worry about sis, I can take care of myself,” I told her. She gives me a funny look. “Yeah like how your crushing on Dimitri,” she says. “I’m not crushing on Dimitri, he’s my guardian,” I say. “Your going to have to be more convincing than that, I see how you look at him. I’m not sure how he feels about you, but you know you can’t be with him like that, it’s forbidden. If you have to get it out of your system, you can fool around with him, as long as you don’t get caught. Your secret is safe with me,” she added with a smile before she walks out of the kitchen. She knows my secret, what am I going to do now?

Mixed Feelings – Chapter Three

I was walking through the dinning room when I almost ran right into Mark that came through the door. I was startled at first, but he walked right up to me as if nothing had happened the other night when he walked out on me after I had rejected his advances.

“I’m sorry for walking out on you the other night. I was just frustrated, that’s all. I don’t want to push you into things you don’t want to do,” Mark explained.

“Can you forgive me?” he asked. I couldn’t say no, he was looking at me so pitiful.

I’m not mad at you, I just don’t want to rush into anything so fast,” I told him. “Of course, we don’t need to rush anything, let’s just take it step by step,” he replied.

Then he leaned over and kissed me. The kiss didn’t long, he pulled away before I had time to even register what had just happened. It was not what I had expected at all. It took me off guard and it felt a little awkward. But I guess that’s what first kisses are suppose to be like.

Later on that evening me and Mark were outside shooting some hoops. It was nice to just have some fun and not worry about anything. It was like the old times when we were just friends and not trying to make it all complicated.

I was winning in points when Dimitri showed up. “Its dark, you know how your mother doesn’t want you out after it’s dark. “Yeah it’s late, I better be getting home too,” Mark said. Mark walked over to me, giving Dimitri a look before he leaned over giving me a quick peck on the cheek. “See you around,” he said before he left. Still standing outside with Dimitri, I watched Mark drive off. When he was gone, I turned to Dimitri. “What was the rush?” I asked. “It’s late, neither of you need to be out this late,” he said, then he turned and started walking into the house.

I went inside and got ready for bed. I must have drifted off to sleep pretty fast. It was in the middle of the night when I woke up to strange noises.

When I sat up, wiping sleep from my eyes, I noticed that the sounds were coming from outside. I slipped off the bed, heading for the window. I moved the curtains, peering outside to see if I could see anything.

It was dark, all I could make out were two people fighting out by the garage. I squinted, pressing closer to the window, when they came into view.

It was Dimitri and Chris sparing with each other. I continued to watch them, it was like watching a dance as they exchanged blows with each other. They both exchanged dangerous punches and kicks. They were both good, only getting a few hits on each other. I continued to watch as they continued to fight each other.

I found myself drawn to them, I had no idea that both of my guards were hot. I had never paid attention before, I was always paying attention to Mark. As I watched them fight, I didn’t realize how well trained they were in fighting. I had never watched them spar like this before. I started to feel guilty having these thoughts about my guards, knowing I had a boyfriend that was so in to me.

Then something unexpected happened, their movements speed up and they were matching each others moves as their movements became blurred. They moved with such fierceness, that a faint light radiated from their movements. I blinked several times to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I look again and was shocked at what I was seeing. When they finished fighting, I watched them walk out of sight, shoving each other as they made remarks to each other. They seemed to get along pretty well when they were not in public. I went back to bed, letting my mind play back their fight. I drifted back off to sleep.

The next day, I went out to play some ball with Dimitri, there he was in a black sleeveless tank top that showed off his lean muscles. He was breathtaking, how did I not notice him before. He tossed the ball and it bounced off the rim, heading right back at him. He shifted as the ball flew past him, barely missing him.

I started to giggle, that’s when Dimitri looked over at me with a weird look. “What is it?” he asked as he stood there waiting for my reply. “I thought you would be better with your kind of skills,” I said as I giggled again. “Hey I might be good at fighting, but I’m not perfect,” he replied.

It was the weekend and my parents were going to be away on business. I was instructed to stay with my two guards today. They chose to spend their time working out, so I had to had to hang with them in the gym. I had nothing better to do anyway, Mark was not coming over today, and I didn’t want to hangout at the mall when my guards had to keep in shape. Chris burned up the treadmill and Dimitri was lifting weights, while I tried doing some stretches.

As I was stretching, I looked over at Dimitri. I watched him work out on the bench, wondering how I never noticed how hot he was. He was lifting weights, not even paying me or Chris any mind. I continued to watch him, when I noticed a tattoo on his upper arm. It was only visible when he was in his work out clothes. It was always covered up when he was working. It looked like a beast with wings, probably had something to do with his job as a guardian. They took their jobs serious, that is what made them good at what they did. I finally made myself look away to go back to doing what I stared to do in the first place. I had to quit staring at him.

That didn’t last long, my eyes wondered again when he moved to kicking at a wooden dummy. He was graceful and precise with each kick. I bet at this point I was staring with my mouth hanging to the floor.

Dimitri finished up with his workout, leaving me and Chris in the gym while he took a shower and changed. Dimitri came back in, when Sandy came through the door. She walked right over to him, starting up a conversation with him. They talked a few minutes, when I noticed Chris staring at Sandy. I knew that look from anywhere, he had a crush on Sandy. As they continued to talk, I found myself a little jealous of the way her and Dimitri could talk with such ease. Dimitri usually kept himself at a distance with me, other than for the first time the other day when he was trying to cheer me up. If I was a betting girl, I would have thought she had a crush on him. I looked over at Chris and he just looked crushed.  I couldn’t blame him, I was getting a little jealous myself. Then I realized with a strange clarity, I had a crush on Dimitri. How did this happen, I thought to myself. He was older than me, it was forbidden to date a guardian. He wasn’t a royal, but man I would break the rules for him any day.

“Stay here with Chris, me and Sandy have some work to do,” he told me before he left. I watched him leave, leaving me and Chris to relax while they did whatever they had to do. I sat down on the bench as Chris settled down on the floor. I couldn’t help but be nosy, “I see how you look at Sandy, you like her don’t you?” I asked. He looked at me like I just figured out a big secret. “Yes I have liked Sandy for a long time. I just can never get up the nerve to ask her out, plus I think she likes Dimitri. I see how she looks at him.,” he replied. “I don’t see it, I think you are just paranoid,” I told him. “Have you seen the guy, he’s a walking hunk!!!” he said with amusement.

“You are not giving yourself enough credit, I think you would have a chance, just as much as Dimitri. You should just ask her, I think she would go out with you, then you wouldn’t keep wondering what if,” I told him.

“Yeah, what about you little miss? I have seen how you have been staring at Dimitri all day. I can’t blame you, most girls do that around him,” Chris huffed. “Well that’s different, I can’t be with Dimitri for so many reasons. For one, he’s older than me, my guardian and he’s not royal. It’s forbidden for us to be together,” I replied. “I guess we both know how each other feels then,” Chris  said. Dimitri poked his head in the doorway, get dressed, it’s spar time.

Chris headed to go get changed and I went outside to join Dimitri and Sandy who were already dressed in their training clothes. Chris joined us only moments later, wearing the same training outfit as Sandy. Dimitri wore a completely different outfit than the two of them. It was the same outfits they had on the other night I watched them fight each other. I jumped up and took a seat on the picnic table to watch them do what they do best. First up was Chris and Sandy, as Dimitri stood by observing them to teach them better techniques and point out any flaws they had.

Sandy was deadly, she could jump at incredible heights and could dodge kicks and punches with graceful movements. She was really good at it, she was sleek and tall with movements like a dancer. She was beautiful, I found myself wanting to be a lot like her.

Chris tried really hard to get a blow in on her, but she was fast.

Then it was Dimitri and Sandy’s turn. She was able to block a lot of  Dimitri’s blows, but she wasn’t as good as him. They didn’t have the experience that he had, he grew up training to be a guardian and even had a fight with a Night Walker. That’s how and why he was so good and why he was selected to teach others how to protect themselves and the ones they were protecting. He had faced them before and knew what they were like. They said he almost didn’t survive, his skill and training that he had, allowed him to escape before they had a chance to kill him.

Sandy was taking a few blows from Dimitri, so he slowed down to show her a few different moves.

Dimitri was done and headed back into the gym. Chris walked over to Sandy that was picking up a towel from a nearby chair. I could hear them talking, as Chris was crushing on her. She seemed interested in Chris, I could see it by the way she was looking at him. I was a little surprised, all this time I had thought she had a crush on Dimitri.

The next day after school, me and my best friend were walking home with Chris and Mark. Mark was paying no attention to me while he was talking to Chris. Out of nowhere she started drilling me, “Ok tell me!” she started. “There’s nothing to tell,” I replied. She was looking at me like I was full of crap. I just wasn’t wanting to tell anyone about my crush on Dimitri. I knew I could trust her, but I wasn’t sure what all these feelings I was having for Dimitri were, and what I truly felt about Mark.

“Ok I get it, you and Mark!” she started just as I cut her off. “No, not that,” I replied.

Then she did it, she used her magic. If had no time to react when I was hit right in the face with a cloud of mist. I was putty in her hands as I looked over at Mark and Chris who were laughing at us. “You,” is all I got out as the spell began to work. “I see you guys later,” Mark called out as he walked over to his car.

“Tell me what’s got you so distracted?” she asked.

I struggled to keep the words from coming out, but the truth spell left me not choice. “I’ve got a crush on Dimitri,” I replied. She started to giggle. “I knew it, I knew you were acting strange. I can’t blame you, he’s very handsome. The best part of it, you get to see him all the time. What about Mark?” she asked. “I don’t know, I’m not sure what I should do,” I replied.

Not So Ordinary – Chapter Two

Me and Mark were coming home from school one day, with Chris following in the distance. “So, how was your classes today,” I asked Mark. “Boring as usual, it’s way to easy,” he replied.

As we headed into the house I was laughing from one of the many jokes that Mark would tell me. He had this gift for making others laugh and have a good time when they were with him. I think that is what drew my attention to him when we first met. We were like best friends, a relationship that was fun to have.

Me and Mark were setting in the living room just about ready to watch a movie. Dimitri and Chris were in the other room to give me and Mark privacy. It was a movie that I had been waiting to see for a long time. I must have been wrapped up in the movie that I didn’t notice that Mark was contemplating something.

He put his arm around my shoulders, then pulled me against his chest. He began to kiss me hard while his hand ran up chest. I couldn’t breath, and the whole situation was making me nervous.

I quickly shoved him away from me, putting distance between us. He looked at me with shock on his face as he leaned back crossing his arms. “Why won’t you go any further with me?’ he asked. “I’m just not ready for that kind of relationship right now,” I told him.

He was mad and I knew it, when he didn’t say anything as he got and started to walk away. “Mark! Please don’t be mad at me,” I called out to him. My please went on answered as I watched him walk out the door.

I sat there mortified at what had just happened between me and Mark. I wasn’t sure if he had just broke up with me or if he was mad. Tears started to wheal up in my eyes when Dimitri walked in. I hid my tears the best I could and managed to get my emotions under control.

“Thought you might want some company,” Dimitri said as he took a seat on the end of the couch. “That would be nice,” I replied in a soft tone. We sat there not saying a word to each other. I tried to watch the movie that I was so wanting to see, but had lost interest in it when Mark pulled his stunt. “I can see that your not into this, take a walk with me,” Dimitri said.

He lead me outside to the back of the house. “This should do it,” he said as he pulled his want out of his back pocket.” I wasn’t sure what he up to, but the site of him using his want was mesmerizing. Not many people got to guardian’s use their wands. “What are you doing?” I asked, as I watched him smirk at me. He pointed it at me, my eyes wide in anticipation on what he was about to do. He flicked his wand as he said something that I couldn’t make out. A small ball of light hit me, then all I felt was a warm feeling spread over me. I felt happy and just like, I was having the best time of my life. “What did you do?” I asked as I stood up. “Well, you looked really upset, so I put cast a spell to make you happy,” he said with a grin.

He sat down, motioning for me to set down beside him. “I know it’s none of my business and if you don’t want to tell me, then I understand. So, what happened between you and Mark today?” he asked. Out of all the time I had known Dimitri never tried to get close to me, he kept to himself and stayed his distance. Now he was not only interested in what was wrong with me, but was taking the time to ask me about it. “We just had a fight, I didn’t agree with some of his ideas,” I replied. I couldn’t believe I was telling Dimitri about my troubles and I defiantly couldn’t tell him what had really happened between me and Mark. I know he would be angry at Mark, he would beat him down next time he would see him. So I left out the details of our fight. Changing the subject, “So how good are you with magic,” I asked. I have been doing it since I was a young child,” he replied. “So did you grow up as a happy child,” I asked, knowing I was maybe asking more than I should. “Yes it was fun and I was getting to do things that others could only dream of doing.” he said as a he smiled as he thought of some past memory.

Dimitri leaned back, barely brushing my hand as he tried to get comfortable. His fingers sent a strange sensation that made me freeze. I had to act calm and not give away that he was having some kind of effect on me that I wasn’t quite sure I knew about myself.

We chatted for a few hours about silly things and about his past. Before we knew it, it was getting dark out and we could see the stars that lit up the sky. “Shooting star,” I said as I pointed upward. All of the sudden I was aware of how close we were. I don’t think he even noticed how close we were, but oh I did! I could smell his cologne mixed with his natural smell. I was breathing it in like oxygen. Then I noticed that I could feel the heat of his body from where we were touching. My heart began to race as a strange felling feeling washed over me. Then a thought came to me, why was I feeling this way toward Dimitri and couldn’t with Mark? Oh my, I think I might have a crush on my guardian. This wasn’t good, it was forbidden, and I was in a relationship with Mark. “It’s getting late,” I said as I stood up. “We better get inside,” he said as he stood up. We headed for the house, with a lot of space between us.

As we rounded the corner my sister, Hanna and her boyfriend Luke were saying there goodbyes. I stopped and Dimitri almost ran right into me. “Wait,” I whispered.

Yep there it was, Luke pulled her into his arms and kissed her so passionately I almost felt guilty watching. I had never been kissed like that and wow did it look amazing. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Lets go this way and give them some privacy,” Dimitri’s soft voice whispered to me. So we headed around the other side going in the back. Once we got inside, Dimitri headed up to his room, leaving me alone downstairs.

When my sister came in, she was glowing with happiness. “So how did your date go with Luke?” I asked. “It was great, as always. I think he might propose to me soon, I just have this feeling,” she told me. “What, are you serious?” I asked with shock. “I think so, I know he loves me and I love him the same way, he’s just been hinting around about it,” she told me. I was shocked and stunned, here she was in love and ready to get hitched, and I had never been in love before, even the first time. I always wanted to have that romance that people talk about, but it just hadn’t happened.

The Beginning – Chapter One

Hi, my name is Emily, just a regular seventeen-year-old girl in high school in my last year of school. I should be happy to be in my last year of school, but it is just the beginning of becoming an adult with responsibilities that I dread. My parents have been prepping me for the day that I take their place on the throne. I just want to be a regular teenager, not a fairy princess with a destiny that I do not want.

I have a twin sister named Hanna, she loves the politics and the royal lifestyle that I try to avoid. I have asked my parents several times to let her be the next heir to the throne, but they have disagreed. They tell me that it is the law that the first of twins be the heir. How I had wished that she would have pushed me out of the way to be first. For now, I must accept my fate, until I find a way to change the laws.

These are my parents, Queen Sophie and King William. They have been ruling for fifteen years. My grandfather was the previous king, which made my dad the heir to the throne. He rules with a kind heart but has a firm judgment when it comes to his people. We have been at peace for over twenty years.

Mark belongs to one of the royal bloodlines. We started dating at the end of my eleventh-grade year. We started off as best friends in school, then decided to date. It was a real pain at first with his popularity, that most of the girls began to hate me out of jealousy.

My sister started dating Mark, he is a few years older than my sister. Mark started dating Hanna when he was in his senior and she was a freshman. My parents were hesitant in letting them date at first, but of course, they love each other and seemed relentless to stay away from each other. So my parents let them be together. They have been dating for several years now and well they are just good for each other.

These are our guardians, that were assigned to me and my sister when we turned sixteen. My sister’s guardian, named Sandy was the best choice for my sister. She refused to have a male guardian, so they gave her one of the highest-ranked female guardians from the royal guard. I have seen her in many practice fights, her skills in magic and fighting are impressive. I was assigned two guardians, none of my choosing. My parents picked them from the special guard unit. The special guard unit is made up of guardians that were selected from a young age, then trained to be the royal guardians when they achieved a certain skill level. One of my guardians are Chris, which is hot as fire, straight out of guardian school, is only a few years older than me. His skills as a fighter and his magic ability made him one of the top guardians at a young age. He was the first guardian assigned to me. My second guardian, name Dimitri was assigned about a year later. Dimitri came from the academy where he taught martial arts and classes to the new elite guards in training. He was the top elite guard of the royal family, but due to his skills and knowledge, they allowed him to train the new guards. He had knowledge that no one else had when he had an encounter with a nightwalker while he was assigned to one of the royal families. My father was so impressed with his skills and knowledge he assigned him to his royal guards.

When me and Hanna were little, we didn’t need personal guards like we do now. We went to school together and were always playing together. We were royal but not that close to the throne at the time. My parents were not king and queen yet. My father’s parents were still alive and were the current rulers.

As I and Hanna grew up, we began to developed magic of our own and could do extraordinary things. It was fun and we got into a lot of trouble.

One night I asked my mother to read me the story of our origin. My mother was hesitant at first, but she decided she would read it to us. “I’ll be right back,” she told me as I watched her leave my room. She quickly returned with an old leather-bound book that looked very old. She walked over, then sat down on the edge of my bed. She opened the book with care, then began to scan through the pages until she found what she was looking for. This would be a story that I would never forget.

I was so excited to hear how we became who we were. I settled into bed as my mother started to read. “It started about a hundred years ago,” she began

“The queen and king had a little baby girl that was born with a rare disease that no one knew of. Many of the royal doctors could not find a way to cure the baby. Out of desperation the queen sought out a wizard that was known to deal with magic. So frail, the little baby laid, never crying or moving. The queen sent for the wizard to come to the castle to see if he could help. When the wizard arrived, he looked over the baby with care. “I can heal the baby, but I have a request in return,” he told the queen. “I will do anything if you can save my daughter,” she told him. “Your daughter must marry one of the decedents when she becomes of age,” he said as he waited for their reply. The queen was taken off guard with the wizard’s request. “If you save my daughter, she will be betrothed to one of your decedents,” she replied. The queen picked up her tiny baby, gave her a kiss, then handed her to the wizard. She watched the wizard place her daughter in her cradle, then he took out a pouch from his bag. Reaching into pouch he started to sprinkle silver dust over her little body while he spoke words that made no sense to any of them. Once he was done, he reached down and laid his hands on the baby’s chest. What happened next was amazing. A light radiated from his hand and moved into her body. The baby then let out a little cry. The queen scooping her daughter up into her arms, as she wept with joy. The wizard turned to her, “she will need to be protected, she cannot be seen by mortals, for they will take her. They do not know that she is special, blessed with the gift of light,” he told her. “We will keep her safe,” she replied to the wizard that left as fast as he came. The queen cried as she watched her daughter that was now full of life. A few days passed when the queen noticed that her daughter had a slight glow to her. As the days passed the baby had what looked like wings that fluttered, though they were not physical.  Beautiful wings radiated from her back. As she grew up, she developed extraordinary powers. She could float a few feet off the ground, as well as mysterious powers that had many mesmerized. They protected her from the world, hiding her existence from the outside court. When she turned into an adult, she fell in love with a mortal. The wizard was furious when he found out about the princess’s love for a mortal. He tried to push for the princess to marry his son, but the son would not break up the couple. So, the wizard gave up and allowed the princess to marry the mortal that she fell in love were. Later the princess and her husband would have kids that were half like her and half like their father. It is said that the guardians are the descendants of the princess. Guardians are almost the same as us, but they are not as delicate as we are. They have many of our magical powers but cannot fly or have our wings, they don’t have the gift of light. There is an evil that exists that would do us harm, so we must be protected all the time,” her mother told them. “Who would want to harm us mom,” I asked with curiosity. “Are you sure you want to hear about them, I don’t want to scare you,” she said. ” I want to know,” I replied with confidence.

“They are called nightwalkers, mystical creatures that are very similar to us. They got their name from their inability to walk in the daylight. Their skin and eyes are so sensitive that the sun could kill them. They are considered the undead, walking the earth with pure evil flowing through their veins. They don’t care about anyone, only their desire to devour their prey. You can spot them by their pale skin that has a slight glow, and their eyes are red, and can even glow in certain lighting. They have pointy teeth that they use to bite their victims, to make it easier to drink their blood. Sometimes they turn people to make them Night Walkers, this is achieved by draining their blood, then making the victim drink their blood. They are immortal, never aging. Some people that know about them have asked to be turned so they can become immortal,” she told me.

I was scared, hiding my fear as my mother continued with her story. “The guardians protect us against them, they are obsessed with our blood. Many have said that our blood was magical, giving them super strength. Our blood causes them to go into a frenzy, draining all our blood. There are stories told, that if one of us was turned, that we would lose our wings and our magic that make us special would disappear. Our teeth would become pointy, our skin would change, and our eyes would become red. We would become the undead walking in the darkness of the night, in search of our next prey,” she explained.

“I personally had never seen one, but many say that in battles years ago, they were super strong, fast and deadly. Many that encountered them never got the chance to tell about it. There were a few that managed to survive, to help teach the others how to defend themselves from the nightwalkers. I laid there trying to imagine it all. I was so glad that we had guardians to protect us from those monsters that my mother had just told me about. I tried to think of what it would be like to see one of them in person only to shudder at the thought of it. I could only hope that I would never have to see them. “Mom, do you think that they could ever hurt us?” I asked with curiosity. “Of course not, we have the best guardians, and they will protect us from them,” she told me. I knew this would be a story that would be passed down through the family, it was a story that would be told for years to come.

Without any further questions, my mother tucked me and my sister in and left us to sleep. I tried to stay awake as long as I could, I was afraid that I would see them in my dreams. I must have drifted off to sleep a short time after mom had left. This was the first memory that I had of this story, and I knew that I would visit this story many times in the future.

Introducing Fairytales

Fairytales is a new series that I have started on after working on my epic journey with the Medieval Series. I love writing and creating works of art so I am now ready to take you on another ride through twists and turns as you see Emily’s life through her eyes.

My name is Emily, I come from a line of royalty, I’m the next in line to inherit the throne. My family has ruled for more than one hundred years, dating back to the medieval era. I have a twin sister named Hanna, that I have enjoyed growing up with. My life has been pretty simple up until now. When I turned seventeen, my life got turned upside down. I was now on the run with one of my guardians, that was one of my best friends. We were being hunted by someone that was out to kill us and Chris was trying to keep me safe. I can only start from the beginning for anyone to understand the predicament that we now faced. This is where my story begins. A few years ago when my family lived at the royal court together, we were known as Lightlings, a race that was kept secret from the human world. We were like humans until a wizard had changed one of my ancestors. My parents that ruled our kingdom was hidden far from the human world. All I ever wanted was to live a simple life, not be the next ruler of the kingdom. At the palace, we had guardians that watched over the royal family, so I thought. The nightmare that ripped my world apart began with them, they call them Night Walkers.

Chris carried me as I screamed and cried. Tears ran down my face and I was covered in blood, not my blood, the blood of innocent people that I knew for sure were dead.

Hearing footsteps closing in, Chris put me down and starts dragging me by the hand. He was fast and keeping up was almost impossible. We had to get away or they would kill us.

We ran for the woods, hoping to loose them, we could only pray that we could outrun them.
